Across the globe, populations are grappling with a myriad of environmental problems, most of which can be attributed to rapid socio-economic development. Urbanisation, industrial and commercial activities, government initiatives and a host of other social and economic activities have led to problems such as plastic pollution, biodiversity loss, extreme weather events, air and water pollution, etc. The prevalence and severity of these problems vary markedly between developed and developing country contexts and even within countries. All over the world, efforts to achieve sustainable socio- economic development are increasingly being matched with simple to innovative strategies for managing and protecting the environment. Unfortunately, pace and commitment in this regard differs markedly across contexts and settings.
